Law enforcement in Sacramento are looking into a shooting that broke out on the evening of April 18 at Howe Park while law enforcement were dissolving a large unsanctioned party of hundreds of attendees.
Before the Gunfire
Sacramento County law enforcement initially got calls about the park on Howe Avenue at about 6:30 Saturday evening after receiving reports of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Soon after, additional information came in regarding a reported physical confrontation breaking out near the park.
A sheriff's airship conducted an aerial sweep but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. However, it was apparent that several hundred individuals had come together at the location in an unauthorized manner.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Officers moved to clear the area by encircling the gathering and issuing commands over loudspeakers directing the hundreds present to leave immediately. Nearly 15 minutes were provided for attendees to disperse.
At the height of the dispersal effort that between 20 and 25 rounds were fired. The sudden gunfire sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies swiftly started locating gunshot victims.
The Shooting Victims
Altogether, four people were identified as having gunshot wounds. Those injured — made up of one woman and three men all reportedly in their 20s — were brought to nearby hospitals. Medical teams reported that two victims were in serious condition, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one had injuries classified as minor. Fortunately, all four were in stable condition.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department arrived on scene and helped triage those with gunshot wounds at the scene.
Evidence at the Scene
The center of the incident seemed to have happened along Cottage Way near the local Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Crime scene investigators recovered more spent casings scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were noted in the wrought iron fence bordering the Home Depot store. These discoveries showed that a shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. The nearby Home Depot was placed on lockdown for a period of time. CSI units alongside detectives remained on scene well into Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 the night.
Suspect Information
Reports confirmed through scanner monitoring established that a Kia vehicle was pulled over in the Solano County area. Four occupants were taken into custody. Law enforcement units were sent to retrieve the detainees to transport the detainees for further questioning. Video evidence showed that there were two gunmen.
